Takeaway accountants who answer the phone and deal with HMRC for you

Takeaway accountants usually get called when the VAT letter lands, not when the books are tidy. Most owners who ring us are mid-service, with a brown envelope sitting by the till.

Tax investigation cover is included free for every client we act for, and we carry the cost ourselves instead of selling it as an add-on. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. We speak Urdu and Hindi if that is easier.

In one lineSupreme Consultants is an AAT licensed accountancy practice in Cardiff Bay that looks after takeaways and food shops across South Wales, covering VAT, bookkeeping, payroll and year-end accounts. Fees are fixed and agreed before work starts. Tax investigation cover is included for every client, and the team speaks Urdu and Hindi.

Is your takeaway in good hands? Three questions.

No email needed, answer with the buttons.

Question 1 of 3

Does your accountant reply the same working day?

What you get

HMRC cover included for every client

Tax investigation cover comes with the service and we pay for it. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won.

A fixed fee agreed before we start

You know the number before any work begins. Calls, meetings and emails are never added to it, so you can ring when the till roll does not add up.

Welsh rules checked on your shop

A franchised convenience store owner was still paying full business rates through Covid because Cardiff Council required an application. We spotted it in the first meeting and recovered £10,000.

Three things takeaway owners tell us on the first call

These are the words people use when they ring us, and what each one was costing them.

  • “There is a VAT letter from HMRC by the till and my accountant still has not rung me back.”

A week of silence turned a question into a penalty. The letter needed an answer in fourteen days.

  • “The till takings, the delivery app payouts and the bank statement never match, so I guess.”

Guessed figures went onto the VAT return. The correction came later with interest attached.

  • “Last year’s tax bill turned up with no explanation and I had three weeks to find the money.”

Nobody had explained payments on account. He paid it out of stock money and ran short on suppliers.

  • What changes once we take it on

Your till, your card machine and your delivery app payouts get reconciled to the bank each month, so the VAT return is built on real numbers. Every deadline for the year is diarised and you hear from us before it, not after. When HMRC writes, you send it to us and we answer it.

How this compares with a general high street accountant

Plenty of firms do good work on food businesses. The difference is in the detail below.

A general high street accountant

Replies within the week, usually by email.

Fee quoted yearly, with extras billed as they come up.

Investigation cover offered as a paid add-on.

Hot and cold food VAT handled from the figures you send.

With Supreme Consultants

A reply the same working day, or a time you will get one.

One fixed fee agreed in writing before we start.

Investigation cover included and paid for by us.

Till, card and delivery app payouts reconciled before the VAT return is filed.

Eight questions about how your takeaway is run

Answer each one about your current set-up, then run the check.

  • Do your till takings reconcile to the bank each month?

If they do not, the VAT return is built on a guess.

  • Are Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats payouts recorded gross?

Commission taken at source is a cost you can claim, and it is often missed.

  • Do you know which items on your menu are zero rated?

Hot food and eat-in sales are treated differently from cold takeaway items.

  • Is every member of staff on the payroll and auto-enrolment?

Casual kitchen hours are the first thing HMRC asks about.

  • Do you know your fee for the next twelve months?

A fixed fee agreed before we start means no bill you did not expect.

  • Have you checked your business rates relief with the council?

Some Welsh relief needs an application, and nobody writes to tell you.

  • Do you understand what your payments on account are for?

Unexplained payments on account are how most HMRC debts start.

  • If HMRC opened a check tomorrow, is the cost covered?

With us it is covered as part of the service.

What we found when a takeaway owner came to us owing HMRC £20,000

A takeaway owner came to us with around £20,000 showing on his HMRC account and no idea how it had built up. Nobody had explained the payments on account sitting on his self assessment.

Clients described by type. Names withheld.

£20,000of HMRC debt we went through line by line with the owner
How it was found
We got agent authorisation, pulled his full HMRC record and filed early so the liability was based on real trading figures rather than estimates.
What happened
The liability came down, the penalties that could be appealed were appealed, and the balance went onto a payment plan he could meet while trading.

I just want to say a big thank you to Mudassir for all the advice, guidance and help he has provided whilst dealing with my accounts and tax returns. From start to finish the service has been excellent and professional. Unlike other accountancy firms they provide a friendly personalised service, I was very clear on the process and was even provided with additional guidance where needed. Highly recommended!

How switching to us works

You have one conversation, then we do the moving parts.

  1. Before you join

    A free introductory chat

Tell us where things stand. If we cannot genuinely help your takeaway, we will say so.

  2. Week one

    Fee agreed and handover sent

We complete your ID checks, agree your fixed fee in writing and write to your current accountant for the records. You do not have that conversation.

  3. First month

    Your HMRC position reviewed

We go through past returns and your HMRC record. This is where missed reliefs, payments on account set too high and appealable penalties turn up.

  4. By ninety days

Every deadline mapped for the year

VAT, payroll, accounts and self assessment are diarised, and we talk through how you pay yourself from the shop.

Who we are not right for

We do not act for CIS construction subcontractors.

We do not act for charities.

We do not take on businesses already late into an HMRC investigation.

If your takeaway is none of those, run the check and we will tell you what we would do first.

Takeaway accountants: questions people ask

How much do takeaway accountants cost?

We work on one fixed monthly fee, agreed in writing before any work starts. What it covers depends on your turnover, whether you are VAT registered, how many staff are on payroll and how tidy the records are. Calls, meetings and emails are never billed on top, so asking a question costs nothing.

How do I switch from my current accountant?

Book a free introductory chat and tell us where things stand. We complete your ID checks, agree the fee in writing, then write to your current accountant for professional clearance and your records. You do not have that conversation. We also handle HMRC and Companies House agent authorisation so we can see your full position.

What happens if HMRC writes to my takeaway or opens a check?

You send us the letter and we deal with HMRC directly. Tax investigation cover is included free for every client we act for, and we carry that cost ourselves rather than selling it separately. Every HMRC investigation we have handled, we have won. The sooner you bring us in, the more we can do.

Do I have to change my till or accounting software?

No. We work with the till and card system you already use and take the payout reports from Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats as they come. If you want to move bookkeeping to Xero we migrate you free, but that is your call rather than a condition of joining.

Do takeaway accountants deal with VAT on hot and cold food?

Yes, and it is the part that most often goes wrong. Hot food sold to take away, cold items and eat-in sales are not all treated the same way, and a menu mix that drifts over time changes the picture. We review your menu and your till categories before filing the return.

Do you speak Urdu or Hindi?

Yes. Urdu and Hindi are both spoken at the practice, so you can explain the situation in whichever language you are most comfortable with, including on the first call. We are based at Titan House in Cardiff Bay and you can meet us there, work with us remotely, or do a mix of both.
